How to Safely Re-Stack Wood Pellet Bags
Many folks don’t have the space to keep their wood pellet fuel stacked on pallets as delivered. Although storing wood pellets outside is possible and very common, we’ve noticed our customers often have our delivery drivers place the skids near an entrance to the house for re-stacking inside.

Woodpellets.com Now Accepting Northwest Wood Pellet Orders via Ziggy’s Home Improvement
It was 1965 when Vern Ziegler established the Ziegler Lumber Company after building hundreds of homes in the Inland Northwest as a general contractor.
Using his vast experience in residential construction, Mr. Ziegler pioneered the do-it-yourself concept with his first store in Spokane Washington. Having been called “Ziggy” much of his life, Vern’s company soon became well known as “Ziggy’s.”
His goal at that time was the same as it is today – to offer the customer the highest quality merchandise at contractor prices, along with excellent service and good advice for the homeowner to do his own projects.
In order to offer expert wood pellet customer service along with the convenience of ordering premium wood pellets online, Ziggy’s recently partnered with Woodpellets.com. Now any wood pellet stove owner within Ziggy’s pellet delivery service area can now place an order through Woodpellets.com online or by calling 1-800-PELLETS.
We’re proud to be working with Ziggy’s and are thrilled to expand our services to the Northwest!
Woodpellets.com’s Newest Driver: A Woman with a Work History to Admire
As a company focused on customer service, home delivery is a significant piece of the Woodpellets.com experience. After a pellet stove owner discusses fuel options with us, or clicks through the website to place an order, delivery is the next big step in the process. Our drivers are responsible for loading up the customerâs fuel, safely transporting it to the home and following the customerâs placement instructions.
Liz was brought onboard this year by JPO Trucking, a small business outside of Poughkeepsie New York and one of our trusted contractors. When asked if we could highlight her in a blog due to her position not typically being held by women, she agreed and said, âGuess I have a history of being employed in male dominated jobs. I am a retired police sergeant.â
Chatting as she walked her rescue dog Daisy after a dayâs work, Liz explained she always had an interest in the trucking industry. She knew it was âeither that or become a copâ, since she grew up with an NYPD homocide detective father. Instead of choosing between the two paths, she ended up with both.
After nearly 5 years in corrections and 22 years in the police force, 18 of which were as a Sergeant, Liz retired last year. But during that time, she went to school to obtain her CDL knowing she would seek a trucking job following her retirement.
During the years serving her community, she dealt with serious, depressing situations and crimes. âMy old job was everyoneâs problems all day long. People donât call the police to help cut a birthday cake.â Talking about the difference between that role and her current trucking job, she says âThis is none of that negativity. Now I can worry about myself!â
According to the American Trucking Association, the number of women in the industry has only increased slightly in the last 15 years, from 4.5 to roughly 6 percent. Liz was surprised to hear just how low the numbers are for females in this industry, and said she wishes more women would sign on.
As for her, she doesnât plan on fully retiring anytime soon. We are lucky to have Liz and our whole network of drivers out there representing Woodpellets.com.
Order Wood Pellets Early and Pick Your Delivery Month – or Wait and Pickup Yourself?
Do you typically pick up your wood pellet fuel? If so, have you really broken down the actual cost comparison of pick-up vs. delivery? Of course, coming home from work to see your wood pellets already neatly placed in your driveway is much more convenient, but it comes at a price.
Depending on where you live and where you buy your pellets, wood pellet and wood brick pick-up and delivery may be available as an option for you. If you are ordering from Woodpellets.com, the website or one of our Customer Service representatives will let you know your options depending on where you live.
Our customers will often ask if the delivery fee is worth it. After years of experience walking through the pros and cons, Woodpellets.com team members have decided to put together a cost comparison formula:
Here are the following variables to keep in mind when crunching your own numbers:
- Miles Roundtrip: This is the total distance traveled from your house to the pickup location and back.
- Mileage Cost:Â Use the average miles/gallon you get in your vehicle, or calculate based on the IRS standard mileage rate for the year.
- Cost per Hour: How much is your time worth? How might you be spending those hours if you weren’t busy picking up your fuel? Would you be earning money working? Spending time with your family? Getting house and yard work done? You might argue that your time is priceless. However, most people put some value on their time, so we typically use a $10 per hour example as the value of otherwise free time.Â
- Hours Spent: This is based on how far away you live from the pickup location, and loading/unloading time there and at home.
- Ton(s) Loaded Per Trip: Most vehicles equipped for this task can carry between a half ton and one ton. Determine how much yours can take per trip.
- Tons Used Annually On Average: Three to four tons is the most typical order size for Woodpellets.com customers. How much do you burn each heating season?
Another way to look at a delivery fee is by breaking down the added cost per bag – instead of on your order total:
If you divide a delivery charge of $59 across a standard order size of 3 tons…that’s only an added 39 cents per bag!
As always, if you have any questions…give us a call at 1-800-PELLETS! We are happy to assist you.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting a Wood Pellet Delivery

Is a Garage Delivery of Wood Pellets Right for Me?
The Woodpellets.com Premier Delivery option involves the use of a pallet jack. This special tool is a hand-operated machine that lifts heavy pallets, allowing delivery drivers to pull skids of fuel over flat, smooth surfaces like a cement floor.
Because of their maneuverability and small size, pallet jacks give you greater flexibility than forklifts to place pallets exactly where you need them.
To see if a pallet jack delivery is an option in your area, call 1-800-PELLETS or visit Woodpellets.com for a free quote!
