Why are there two BTU values?
For Example:
Moisture Free: 8,400 BTU/lb
As Received: 7,817 BTU/lb
We show the moisture free results so you can make an appropriate comparison with other pellet fuels. That is the value almost all pellet retailers report. Realistically, this isn’t very useful– it represents the heat content of a pellet after all the moisture is removed.
The most informative measure of heat content is the as received value – it’s how the pellets tested straight out of the bag and is equivalent to the heat they’ll give off when you burn them in your stove at home.
